Complimentary Meeting with Jeanine Briefel

My students meet me in person, or remotely via FaceTime or Zoom for an initial brief introduction, interview, and evaluation. In this way, we can both get a better idea of what is involved in music lessons. I like to begin to know the students a little, get a sense of their interest in music, and assess their capabilities as beginners or, in the case of transfer students and adults returning to music, evaluate their level of musical training. There is no fee for this meeting.

Expectations

Students of Jeanine Briefel agree to:

  • Practice a bare minimum of three times a week

  • Do their best to focus during lessons

  • Respect their teacher and their music

  • Have fun!

Parents of students of Jeanine Briefel agree to:

  • Help their children practice at least three times a week

  • Make sure that all books are brought to lessons

  • Pay bills promptly

Group Piano Classes

  • Group Piano Classes happen four times during the academic year: October, early January, mid-February, and April or May.

  • Classes are an opportunity to share music with friends, learn ear training and theory, practice performing and play music games. Classes are for students only, not parents.

  • Each piano class is 1-1/2 hours long and takes place on Sundays between 3:30 – 5:00.

  • Each class is tailored to the needs of the students participating.

  • At the end of the group class, home-baked goodies are always served with choice of beverage. Please notify me in advance of any allergies or preferences.

Music Festivals and Recitals

  • I am happy to help prepare students for NYSSMA (New York State School and Music Association) and NYMC (New York Music Clubs) festivals and other events. Participation is voluntary and is agreed upon with parental input and approval.

  • Entrance fees and applications, which are sent from the participating school, are the responsibility of parents.

Our end of the year recital takes place the Tuesday evening before Memorial Day at the Locust Valley Library. Participation is strongly encouraged as this is the time we celebrate students’ accomplishments. Please do bring family members and friends. Refreshments are served afterwards.

Tuition

  • Tuition rates are discussed at the initial meeting prior to beginning lessons.

  • Tuition covers weekly lessons along with lesson planning, finding music, a lending library, curriculum development, recital preparation, class preparation, and piano class supplies and recital fees.

  • Tuition invoices will be sent via email and are payable before the 10th of the month.

  • I accept cash, checks, and Zelle.

  • I purchase music as required throughout the year and include the price on the next bill.

  • Missed lessons--sports, theater, dance, school activities, travel, family events, birthday parties and illness--can make attendance challenging. Please give me as much early notice as possible so we can schedule a make-up lesson.

  • Forgotten lessons will be charged at the normal rate.
